Description
This is the standard course. It contains 4 group lessons a day, which means 20 a week. Classes are from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 12:30, with the exception of official Brazilian holidays. Coffee break between 10:45 to 10:50.
Each lesson is a unit of 50 minutes.
Classes are focused on conversation, but also cover writing (15%), reading (20%),and grammar (15%). 50% of class is spent on speaking and understanding.
All courses are taught with the school own books. These books have been especially developed by our team of teachers and offer the ideal communicative way of learning a language in a way that considers the students' reality during the course. The books and all didactical material are included in the course price.
The most important objective of the language courses is the ability to successfully communicate. That means that not only grammar and vocabulary, but also listening, reading and writing skills as well as conversation in modern colloquial Portuguese are taught. An introduction to Brazilian way of life, customs, politics and culture represents an important part of the classes.
The special characteristics of the language courses are the great portion of conversational-training in class as well as the integration of intercultural activities. Lessons are taught in Portuguese only, carefully prepared for each level, from beginner to advanced students. In an agreeable way, games music, videos and other didactical means are used to develop listening and conversation skills which prepare the students for the confrontation with original material like topical texts, up-to-date news from newspapers and magazines, modern literature and documentary reports.
The school can also help the students to find voluntary works in NGO's working with street children, with deficient people or in poorer neighborhoods, teaching or giving all kind of workshops or assistance in every day life.
Important: Participation in this social projects is only permitted for students with at least basic Portuguese knowledge who stay for at least 3 months in Salvador

Some activities
Included in the Portuguese programs is a cultural program with trips to a variety of locations including museums, parks, markets and the city's historic district. All the tours and meetings are accompanied by a guide, who introduces local culture and activities to the students. This program is free of charge. The excursions are free, but the costs for transport, food or tickets are not included. The school can change or cancel this program whenever for any reason it should really become necessary.
Our overall goal, as the student begins to comprehend the people and surroundings, is to reveal an in-depth presentation of Salvador.

All students are also invited to participate in regular intercultural get-togethers in a nearby bar /restaurant. It gives them the opportunity to meet Brazilian students in a relaxed atmosphere and to try out the new language in reality, having a beer or a "Caipirinha". It happens twice a month on Friday night. The costs for drink and food are not included.

Accommodations
Host family including: single room, breakfast, bathroom on the floor; walking distance to the school. This is a way to directly sample the Bahian way of life, through the day to day contact with Brazilians which living in private homes provides. Family homes are never located far from the school. Most of them are located in a 5 to 15 minutes walking distance. This is included in he price of your program.
Hotels or guest houses also available.
Transfer Info
The international airport, Luis Eduardo Magalhães, is the only one in Salvador. It´is located 30 km from the city's center.
The school offers its students a comfortable airport transfer. The charge for this service is $57 one way and $ 115 R/T.
