The School
The beautiful Mediterranean climate of not too hot summers and mild, fairly dry winters in Andalucia makes it a perfect place to relax and study. In the summer (July, August and September) the temperature is generally in the upper 20s and lower 30s. It is relatively hot (30-35C) and humid so students should pack light, summer clothes. People do not tend to dress up except for special occasions. In the winter months, you will probably need a jacket in the evening and sometimes during the day. You will rarely need really warm clothes (unless you go skiing in the Sierra Nevada!) Málaga is famous for having one of the best climates in Europe and our students can be seen sunbathing during most of the year. At the heart of Andalucía, Málaga has excellent connections with Granada, Sevilla, Córdoba etc. Málaga International Airport is only 20 minutes drive from the school.
The people are fun-loving and openhearted with a passion for music and dance. Andalucia is the home of Flamenco and you can go to a Flamenco show or see spontaneous music and dancing in the streets and bars of Málaga. The classical music enthusiast can attend operas and orchestral concerts in the Cervantes Theatre. Rock and pop concerts are held frequently in the Bull Ring and at other venues. As the birthplace of Piccaso, you can attend the Piccaso Museum. You can also enjoy many art exhibitions of modern and traditional art.
You will find in the Mediterranean lifestyle local people eat out a lot in the "chiringuitos" (beach-front fish restaurants), hundreds of city-centre tapas bars and restaurants of all types and frequent the many bars, wine bars and sites that help to retain Malaga's totally Spanish atmosphere. The people are very friendly and easy to meet. This area is famous for its seafood, olives and olive oil. You will eat Paella and Gazpacho and drink Sangria and Rioja. The nightlife, famous throughout Europe, tends to start at midnight if you're up to it. Also there are many options for theater, opera and concerts. The Plaza de Toros plays host not only to bull fights but also rock and pop concerts.
The school was founded in 1971 and has gained an enviable international reputation and is now widely recognized as being one of the best language schools in Spain. The facilities are excellent with on-site accommodations, study and recreational facilities. It is based on a mini-campus including its famous residence in a residential suburb of Malaga. (15 minutes by bus from the city center and 10 minutes walk from Mediterranean beaches. There are 20 well-equipped classrooms of different sizes; a new facility equipped with video and audio; 3 video rooms; a 10-booth fully interactive Tandberg language laboratory; cinema; cafeteria which is open at lunchtime and evening; bar to meet, drink and chat (in Spanish!), play chess, dominoes, pool, etc.; 2 large sun terraces and a swimming pool. The beach is only a 15-minute walk away! An integrated, communicative teaching system using their own books results in rapid progress. The teachers are well trained and highly qualified with enthusiasm and dedication.
