The School
The school, is locataed on the eastern shores of Sicily in the heart of the ancient city, Ortigia. Due to its central location and accessibility to the entire Mediterranean, Syracuse is an ideal destination for students. Known as one of the greatest cities in the Ancient World, Syracuse's extensive and diverse history appeals to many interests. The breathtaking coastline, volcanic mountains, remote islands, ancient ruins, and unique architecture offers a playground for students as well as a rich source for an educational, leisure stay.
Modern Syracuse is divided into two sections: the modern bustling section, and the more intimate, historical center of Syracuse, Ortigia - an island connected by bridge to mainland Sicily. Ortigian streets typically end at the sea wall, which is lined with palm tree shaded walks, vibrant open markets, and trattorie.
The school is in a completely restored 15th century Sicilian building. The building includes a traditio nal central courtyard and three floors, newly renovated to include large air conditioned classrooms, computer lab and multimedia room with audio and video facilities, photography lab, painting studio, library and student lounge. The sea is visible from the entrance of the school, with swimming spots only steps away.
The school is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education, is an educational group based in Italy with a network around the world. Since 1976, it has offered people the opportunity to learn the Italian language and to experience our quality and enthusiasm of our professional teachers, excellent accommodation and the overall care and services provided for our students are the keys to our commitment and success. The school, with the academic partmer of The Mediterranean Center for Arts and Sciences, welcome students from all over the world to discover the largest island in the Mediterranean, through its history, art, culture and legends.
Syracuse is known as the greatest classical Greek city outside of Athens, full of history and art, expressing all the variety and all the cultural richness of Sicily. Today Syracuse, with its 200,000 inhabitants, is divided into two parts: the modern part in expansion, and the historic island center of Syracuse, Ortigia. The old center immediately reveals the charm of a city that has witnessed almost three thousand years of history and the significant expressions of the most important Mediterranean civilizations. Visiting Ortigia is like a historical journey among Free temples and Christian churches, Swabian, Aragonese and Baroque buildings, courtyards, Arabian alleyways, workshops, modest houses and bigger state buildings as well as beautiful squares.
Among Ortigia's outer walls you will find outdoor cafes and local restaurants, a vibrant open market with endless stalls selling Mediterranean fish, fruits and vegetables, under the background of the omnipresent sea. Streets typically end at the sea wall, and in many places you can descend the stairs onto ancient stones, where locals and visitors gather to swim in the Ionic Mediterranean.
Syracuse school runs from May to October.
